Music with love

Texas Guatemala world-wide

Inspired From Necessity

our story

Sounds of Music is a multi-national music organization for all ages.  On August 6th, 2015, Sounds of Music was officially created in South Texas with a focus to educate and empower youths and adults alike.  Education through local continuing education programs and empowering through teaching positions, musical performance and pursuing dream jobs.

The vision of Sounds Of Music is to help support each student in their progress of music studies all the way to college.  The future for these empowered students is to graduate as educated musicians and teachers to give back within their community.

Sounds of Music has been an outreach program for youths and adults alike.  We have provided current students with an educating path in music theory, music history and support each other through music groups in class.  We need new quality instruments for our current students for the past six years that have advanced to better opportunities in performing for Symphony Orchestra, Opera, band concerts, higher calling to Churches or traveling dream jobs.  We need sponsors and donors to provide backup and additional instruments and accessories for new students.

Sounds of Music recognizes it takes a village of music instructors, parents, board members, donors and sponsors to help keep a multi-national music organization operating and successful.  Not all parents and aspiring musicians can afford instruments and lessons.

Sounds of Music provides a way.

Sounds Of Music relies on monetary donations and tangible goods to include musical instruments, music stands, Suzuki lesson books, violin/viola strings, rosin, shoulder rests, bows, instrument cases, plastic flutes, tambourines, egg shakers, clothing, school supplies (notebooks, backpacks, shoes, hair ties, etc).

My name is Clarisa Martinez and I began learning the violin when I was 11 years old, my first year of middle school. The violin was not something I was particularly curious about at the time, but I needed an elective and so I chose orchestra. Little did I know the monumental effect this seemingly small decision would have on my future. This decision ignited within me a love and passion for music and has guided my every step throughout my years of academia. I chose courses and activities that would challenge me and better hone my skills as a musician. Though I enjoyed performing music, I was not immune to the outside stressors and anxiety. These factors did have an effect on my schooling and there were times that I struggled to maintain a passing grade. After graduating high school in 2009, I attended Del Mar College for about one year. I quickly realized I was not in the correct mindset nor did I possess the attitude needed to be a successful student. Therefore, I took a step back from music and school. I turned my attention towards working and I wanted to see what other opportunities were available to me. During this time, my admiration and respect for music never faltered and I learned a lot about myself. I learned that though I suffered from anxiety, I was able to persevere through it. I discovered that I was stronger than I realized. This gave me the motivation and encouragement needed to return to Del Mar College. I am now 31 years old and currently pursuing a degree in violin performance. I have met many peers and professors who have believed in me and inspired me to always try my best and to not allow myself to hold me back. Angela is certainly one of these amazing people. When I met her in Del Mar’s orchestra, I had no idea the incredible blessing that it was. Not only is she a wonderful musician, but she is a kind friend and a beautiful person. We have been fortunate enough to see each other overcome difficult struggles and become stronger musicians because of it. I remember when Angela first told me she had a violin that she was going to give me. I truly did not know how to respond. What I felt was mostly shock, and it did not truly feel real at the time. When she gave me the violin, and I held it for the first time, it still felt so surreal. As I began playing it and as I got used to its sound, it slowly began to sink in that it was mine. It is a beautiful violin and possesses a tone that fits who I am as a musician. Though it’s been over a year since I’ve owned it, there are times where I still cannot believe that it is mine. If Angela did not provide this incredible gift to me, I am unsure of when or how I was going to obtain a violin of my own. I did not know how I was going to continue my music career after graduating college. This gift completely erases all of those worries. There have been many times throughout my music career where I have doubted myself and questioned if I am on the right path. Previously, I would have let those doubts control me. However, upon receiving this gift, it is confirmation enough that I am pursuing a career in what I am meant to do. Though I know I can never repay Angela for what she has given me, nor can I ever truly express my sincere gratitude and thanks, I hope to make her proud by continuing to play and perform my best. Through teaching, I also hope to one day inspire musicians of any age with the same love and curiosity for music that I have.
